About Saltee Islands

Saltee Islands in Kilmore, Co. Wexford.

The Saltee Islands consist of two islands, the Great and Little Saltee. The Great Saltee is one of the world's major bird sanctuaries and is very popular with both day-trippers and birdwatchers.

The Saltees are a haven for sea birds from Gannets and Gulls to Puffins and Manx Shearwaters. They also lie on an important migratory route for spring and autumn migrants. The Great Saltee also has a breeding population of Grey Seals.

The islands are the private property of the Neale family. It is not possible to land on the Little Saltee and access to the Great Saltee does not require permission from the family. Boast can be hired at Kilmore Quay.
