About Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church

Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church is located at West Street in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

This is a cruciform-plan Roman Catholic church, originally built 1791 to designs by Francis Johnson with later Gothic Revival modifications and extensions in the late 19th century which completely conceal the original building. It is set well back from West Street at the top of a double flight of steps.

Outside the main door stands an octagonal medieval baptismal font, mounted on a modern pedestal and plinth. Today it is used as a holy water stoup. The font came originally from the old church at Killineer.

The west chapel is dedicated to Saint Oliver Plunkett with a reliquary containing his head.
