About Saint Mary's Church

Saint Mary's Church is located at Parson Street in Maynooth, Co. Kildare.

Saint Mary's Gothic-style Church of Ireland church was built in 1859 and incorporates the fabric of an earlier church from 1248.

The very first college in Maynooth, the College of St. Mary of Maynooth, was established here by Gerald, 8th Earl of Kildare, in the early part of the 16th century and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1535 it was suppressed under Henry VIII during the Reformation and following Thomas Fitzpatrick's (Silken Thomas) failed rebellion. All that remains of the college is the tower attaching to the church.

The church has been very well-maintained and retains many of its original features.
