About Foynes Flying Boat Museum

Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Foynes, Co. Limerick.

The Foynes Flying Boat Museum is housed in the original flying-boat terminal building constructed in 1935.

During the late 1930s and early 1940s, Foynes became one of the biggest civilian airports in Europe as land-based planes lacked sufficient flying range for Alantic crossings. Transatlantic flights began in July 1937 and continued up until 1946. Following the opening of Shannon airport in 1942, Foynes importance deminished and it was finally closed in 1946.

The musuem opened in 1988 and contains a comprehensive range of exhibits from the era, including the original radio and weather room, Morse code equipment and a full-size replica Boeing 314 flying boat. There is also an authentic 1940's cinema on site and restaurant.

Opening Times
Daily, 9:00 - 17:00 from Mar 31st to Oct 31st.
