About Father Michael O'Flanaghan

Father Michael O'Flanaghan in (1876 - 1942) Priest & Republican..

Born at Cloontower, near Castlerea, Co Roscommon, educated at Diocesan College, Summerhill, Co Sligo. Ordained at Maynooth in 1900.

Gave the oration at the lying in state of O'Donovan Rossa.

In 1917 he managed count Plunkett's successful campaign in the Roscommon by-election, and became vice-chairman of Sinn Féin.

He worked for the republican cause in America until De Valera invited him back to assist in forming a new electoral policy. He acted as chairman of a subcommittee appointed to draw up a social programmed for Sinn Féin.

He died in August 1942.
