About Coole Park

Coole Park in Gort, Co. Galway.

Coole Park was the former home of Lady Augusta Gregory co-founder of the Abbey Theatre and in the 1900s it was the centre of the Irish Literary revival. WB Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge and Sean O\' Casey all visited here and carved their initials on the famous Autograph Tree, an old beech still standing today in the walled garden.

The house is no longer standing, and the land is now in the care of the National Parks & Wildlife Service which together with Garrylands forms a 100 acre Nature Reserve with walking trails.
