Church of Saint Davnet

Church of Ireland Church with adjoining graveyard

A symmetrical freestanding Board of First Fruits-style double-height stone Church of Ireland church with Gothic Revival details, built 1754-1755, enlarged 1804 and 1830 (1), re-roofed and refurbished 1867 by Hnery Sharpe to designs by Welland & Gillespie (2). Prominently sited at a crossroads, this classic Board of First Fruits church provides an important focal point within the village. The parish was relocated in the mid eighteenth century from a more rural location, near Tedavnet St Dympna's Roman Catholic Church. The enclosed church with a parish school, semidetached mausolea, crypt vaults, memorials and elegant landscaping all anchor the centre of the village community and remain its most prominent group of structures.
