About Blennerville Windmill

Blennerville Windmill in Blennerville, Co. Kerry.

Blennerville Windmill built in 1800 by Sir Rowland Blennerhassett, is now a major tourist attraction in Tralee. The working windmill is part of the Blennerville Visitor Centre that contains an exhibition gallery, audio-visual presentation facilities, craft shop and restaurant. Visitors can access the windmill, see how it operates and climb to the top to the bird watching platform. The Visitor Centre also houses an Emmigration Display, which shows the importance of Blennerville as the main emmigration port from Co. Kerry during the Great Famine (1845-48) to the United States. Blennerville was also the home port for the "Jeanie Johnston".
