About Beginish Island

Beginish Island in Iveragh Peninsula, Co. Kerry.

Situated between Valencia Island and the Iveragh Peninsula, Beginish Island is a rich archeological site with the remains of eight house, fifteen cairns, eight animal shelters and associated artefacts on the eastern side of the island, the remains of a watch tower on it's highest peak on the western side and a childrens' burial ground to the south. There is plenty to explore. The island was occupied between the 10th and 12th centuries most likely by Norse or Viking maritime settlers.

The island also offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching, marine wildlife and swimming.
