Avondale House & Forest Park in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow.

Over 214ha of magnificent forest parkland. Avondale is synonymous with the birth of Irish Forestry in 1904. There is an extensive collection of trees and shrubs from the long open sweet of the Great Mote to towering conifers on the banks of the Avonmore River. Avondale House is a fine Georgian House built in 1777 and was the birthplace of Charles Stewart Parnell (1846 - 1891) and is open to view.

Directions: Situated on the outskirts of Rathdrum on the R752 for Rathdrum, L2149 for Avondale.

Admission: Car park fee €5. Groups welcome. Guided tour with professional forester - booking necessary €4.50pp. House admission €6.50.
