About Anne Devlin

Anne Devlin in (1778 - 1851) Patriot..

Was a niece of Michael Dwyer and the devoted servant of Robert Emmet.

Hiding in the Dublin Mountains after the failure of his rising in 1803 she carried messages between him and his friends in Dublin.

She was arrested but despite imprisonment and torture refused to give any information.

Released after two years, she spent the rest of her life in poverty in the slums of Dublin.

Dr. Richard Madden befriended her towards the end of her life, and he had a monument erected over her grave in Glasnevin Cemetery.
